You used to get there without thinking about it.
Now it takes twice as long. Or it does not happen at all. Touch that used to feel good barely registers.
It is not in your head, and it is not something you just have to live with.
Why orgasm gets harder postpartum and after menopause
Two times in a woman’s life, estrogen drops. After you have a baby, and after menopause.
Estrogen keeps the tissue down there soft, moist, and full of blood flow. When it drops, the tissue gets thinner and drier. It takes longer to wake up, and orgasm gets weaker or harder to reach.
After having a baby
Breastfeeding keeps estrogen low, which makes the vaginal tissue thin and dry. A vaginal birth can also stretch or bruise the nerves that carry feeling to the clitoris and vaginal wall. Tears and stitches can leave scar tissue. Many women notice less feeling afterward.
After menopause
Estrogen falls and stays low. The tissue thins, blood flow slows, and feeling fades a little more each year.
What the O-Shot does
The O-Shot uses your own blood. We take a small sample and spin it to pull out the platelets. Platelets are the part of your blood that helps your body heal. We place them in the tissue that drives arousal and orgasm. The goal is to wake that tissue back up.
How the O-Shot helps your nerves
Platelets carry growth factors. Some of them feed nerves and the cells that protect them. Others bring in new blood vessels and calm swelling. In lab and animal studies, PRP helped damaged nerves grow back. Small human studies have seen it help nerve problems like carpal tunnel. These growth factors go to work on the nerves that carry feeling in this tissue. The research on this exact use is still early.
Does the O-Shot work?
A 2026 study of 52 women compared the O-Shot to a saline shot. About 7 in 10 women who got the O-Shot said their sex life improved after six weeks. About 4 in 10 said so after the saline shot. There were no serious side effects. The study was small, and bigger ones are on the way.
Bladder leaks, especially after having a baby
Do you leak when you cough, laugh, sneeze, or jump? It is very common after delivery. The same tissue and nerves that give you feeling also help hold your urethra closed. Childbirth can stretch them, and low estrogen thins them.
The O-Shot works on that area too. The growth factors in your PRP help tissue and nerves around the urethra recover. In a small 2023 study of 50 women with stress leaks, 32% of women who got PRP reported being cured, compared with 4% who got a placebo. There were no side effects. It is a small study, and more research is coming.
If leaks are part of your story, tell me at your consult. I treat them together with the rest.
What your visit is like
Numbing cream goes on first. The blood draw is a regular one. The shots take a few minutes, and most women feel a pinch or pressure. The whole visit usually takes under an hour, and then you go back to your day. No sex or anything in the vagina for 24 hours.
When you will notice a change
Some women feel a change in days. For others it takes a few weeks. The tissue keeps building for about three months. Many women keep the benefit for one to two years, and some come back for a repeat.
Who it is for
It is for women whose feeling has dropped, whose orgasms are hard to reach or weak, whose arousal builds slowly, or who leak urine when they cough, laugh, or jump. Your health history decides the rest. I check for bleeding problems, blood thinners, infection, and pregnancy.
Why I start with your hormones
I am a board-certified OB-GYN and a certified O-Shot provider. Before any shot, I check your estrogen, your testosterone, and where you are after baby or in menopause. If low estrogen is the problem, we fix that first, so the O-Shot works on tissue that is supported. Some women feel enough better from hormone care that they never need the shot.
Your next step
Book a consult. We look at your hormones, your health history, and whether the O-Shot belongs in your plan. You can also read more on our O-Shot page.
